Advice from Ken Powell, CEO, General Mills

I found three pieces of advice from Ken Powell in the May 4, 2009 issue of Fortune that I think are worth sharing:

TRUST EQUALS CANDOR  –  If your colleagues believe that you respect and trust their judgment, they'll pay you the compliment of telling you what they really think.  So remember:  Trust and candor travel together.

CREDIBILITY IS CRUCIAL  –  Leaders need to be transparent regarding their values.  Today more than ever, the broad and the troops are watching you intently. If they doubt your integrity, you lose all credibility.

SEARCH FOR SOLUTIONS  –  We don't expect employees to have all the answers.  But what we expect them to do is to tap all the resources at the company so that they arrive at the best possible solution.
