July 23 Notes

Our Communication:

Jim Bruce posts the Tuesday Readings on the message board in this site.  We will use our site for posting notes from the meetings and then just refer back to Jim's posts instead of reposting to the Friday Group site.

Interest in this group:

Maggie has recently joined the Iowa Leadership Development Steering Committee and discussed the activities of this group.  There was quite a bit of interest and some Iowa staff may want to observe one of these sessions.  Lori indicated that Mark Hale and Ryan Lenger have shown interest in creating some sort of ongoing group of their own within the UI community.

Articles:

  • Immediate feedback is critical and something we "owe" to our direct reports.  Need to develop a culture of feedback.  We practiced this during our leadership training, but may need to train our own staff about effectively giving and receiving feedback.
